Visakhapatnam never experienced a Category-4 cyclone, at least in the living memory of most residents. This is probably the first time that we have had the eye of a cyclone target the city with such deadly accuracy.<\/p>\n<p>[metaslider id=428]<\/p>\n<p>The pro-active government machinery ensured that the loss of human lives was minimal. The post-cyclone cleanup is still going on as we write this in the third week of November and could take a few more months if we consider the interior areas of rural Visakhapatnam district.<\/p>\n<p>[metaslider id=&#8221;Hudhud_VUDA_park&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>What next?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Many thousands of residents are volunteering their time to help clean up their &#8220;beloved city&#8221; and some of us have already started rebuilding efforts simultaneously.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who is helping?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rotary Clubs of District 3020 and other districts are distributing clothing, utensils, biscuits and a few staples. 7 (Seven) RO Drinking Water Plants are being built at the zoo (1), KGH (3) and VGH (3) which will cost around 14.5 lakh rupees, half of which will be matched by a donor. So, the Rotary Clubs are looking for donations of about 7.25 lakh rupees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is needed?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sacred Heart School in Gnanapuram with 1200 students and three more schools need a new roof and replacement furniture. The zoo needs 1500 tree guards which are 6&#8242; high. 45 villages in Paderu and Araku need food, clothing, and shelter (roofs). AU needs lots of funds for repairs to damaged buildings and lab equipment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If I cannot help financially, can I be of any help?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes, definitely. As a matter of fact, people who can spare their time, energy and resources are needed in plenty. Here are a few of many ways that you can help:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Donate blood (this is the time when regular donors are busy recovering from the cyclone so blood banks can definitely use new volunteer donors &#8211; that means you.) Rotary Blood Bank (at Jagadamba Center), AS Raja Blood Bank in Ram Nagar and Red Cross Blood Bank at Zilla Parishad are three options.<\/li>\n<li>Volunteer at a School. Government schools can definitely use dedicated volunteers willing to help children with their learning.
