Take a hike on your next trip home

Visakhapatnam has become quite a concrete jungle as more and more apartments are replacing individual homes that had nice gardens. Traffic has also increased leading to air and noise pollution. If you are visiting your home town after a while, you are sure to notice this change too.

Kambalakonda Nature Park
Kambalakonda

We would recommend a visit to Kambalakonda Nature Park on your next trip. This gem of nature, spread over 70.7 square kilometres, is less than a 10 minute drive from Andhra University. The Indira Gandhi National Zoological Park is a few 100 feet away. The forest department, which takes care of this Kambalakonda, arranges trekking up the hill early in the morning. Visitors can also hike along the trail that goes around a nice lake.

Along the trail is a sightseeing tower that gives a birds eye view of all the hills. A part of the Bay of Bengal is also visible from one side of this tower.

If you are a nature lover, this vast tract of forest land right in the middle of the city is a must see place. You are guaranteed to remember and talk about it even after you leave Vizag.

Schools in Vizag worth considering

If you are also like us then you also believe that education is about nourishing the body as well as the brain. Most private schools in Vizag are unfortunately without any play ground. A few schools have started using nearby government spaces for providing physical exercise. However, the vast majority are still robot factories that turn children into machines rather than thinking and caring individuals. Until this changes, we will still vote for the schools of yesteryear that had playgrounds. Timpany, Visakha Valley, SFS, St. Aloysius, St. Joseph’s and Kotak Salesian still have recreational space for their students.

A few corporate schools like Oakridge and Sri Prakash have campuses with good infrastructure for recreation but they are quite far away from the city center.

Of course, most of the government schools have lots of open space for playing but unfortunately neither the school administration nor the government is spending any money on the necessary infrastructure. One exception is the ZPHS in Chandrampalem, Madhurawada. The sports infrastructure that they possess puts most established private schools to shame.

Did we miss some school? Please let us know in the comments below.

Plans for 5 lakh sft commercial space in Madhurawada

As The Hindu has reported (https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/Visakhapatnam/vmrda-mulls-development-models-for-it-city-project/article24963344.ece), the newly formed VMRDA (Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority) is planning to build commercial space in Madhurawada.

Madhurawada has seen quite a lot of growth with a lot of people moving to that region since the heart of the city has seen increase in residential rent prices. The number of people working in the IT hills has increased, the demand for housing and allied amenities is also bound to increase.

AU Fine Arts students do what they do best

The Andhra Unversity Department of Fine Arts has once again shown it’s prowess. Students of the graduating batch of 2015 put their talent on display at an exhibition that concluded today, 26 April 2015.  Needless to say, some sculptures, paintings and drawings were amazing.
